Best time to visit:

  1. The warm and wet season in Zambia is between the months of December to April. These months are regarded as the ‘Emerald Season’ in Zambia, as the rains provide lush and green vegetation all round. This is the off-peak tourist season, and If visiting during these months one should be able to secure some good deals.
  2. The shoulder months of April and May are characterized by lower levels of rainfall and dipping temperatures as we proceed into the cooler months of the country.
  3. The dry season in Zambia begins to set in towards the end of May and extends to November. The weather combined with the many activities and safari’s offered around the country, make these months the best time to visit Zambia.
  4. The first half of the dry season, June to August is often regarded as the peak tourist season and is the relatively cool dry period in Zambia.
  5.  As we progress further into the dry season, September to November see’s the temperatures rising, with October tending to be one of the hottest months of the region.
  6. June to November are ideal months to visit Zambia due to the good game viewing, as animals tend to gather around the many water holes, given the dry weather.

Climate:

  1. Zambia’s climate may be categorized into a wet, dry and shoulder season.
  2. The wet season in Zambia lasts between December to April and during these months the country experiences heavy downpours, making most activities and movement restricted. Temperatures average between 25 to 28 degrees Celsius.
  3. April to May may be characterized as the shoulder or transitional months, as the rains begin to warn off and temperatures start to dip on most parts of the country.
  4. Lastly, the dry season occurs between the months of June to November. These months experience very low rainfall and are regarded as the peak tourist season.
  5. While June to August are ideal seasons to visit, with mild temperatures ranging between 22 to 25 degrees Celsius, September to November experience the maximum heat, with temperatures rising to 30 degrees in October.
  6. However, the latter are still a good time to visit, as with increased heat, game viewing also tends to be better.

Things to carry:

  1. Pack lightweight warm clothes for winter (May to August), cool cottons for summer (September to April) with rainwear thrown in.
  2. If you are on prescription medicine, it is a good idea to carry enough to last your stay because you may not get them in Zambia

How to get there:

Air:

  1. Lusaka, the capital, is the gateway for all international flights that come into the country. The airport is 16 km from the city.
  2.  All parts of Zambia are easily accessible from Lusaka because it is in the centre of the country.
  3. Flights from Europe come in via Ethiopia, South Africa or Kenya.
