Uruguay lies across the Rio de la Plata from Buenos Aires (Argentina). If you thought the tango is the copyright of Argentina then you have got to see what a favorite it is with the people in Uruguay!

They celebrate the Carnival with the joie de vivre of all Hispanic Americans. People visit this country to see the sublime Atlantic beach resorts, the beautiful town of Colonia still frozen in the 18th century and enjoy the great range of sports on offer.
About half the population of Uruguay lives in Greater Montevideo. Europeans will find their own kind in Uruguay, as Uruguayans are all basically European, mostly of Spanish and Italian origin. So its a little bit of Europe in South America – and a happy mix it is!

Best time to visit:

  1. Uruguay is a year-round destination to visit, as there are no extremes in temperature and it always remains as a good-to-go destination. The rainfalls are almost equally distributed throughout the year.
  2. Being in the Southern hemisphere, Uruguay witnesses summer in the months of December to March
  3. Being a year-round destination, another ideal time to visit the country is during the winter and transitional seasons which occur between the months of June to November

Climate:

  1. Uruguay experiences a humid subtropical climate. The country is entirely situated within the temperate zone therefore the climate remains uniform nationwide.
  2. There is rarely any extreme variation within the climate except for normal seasonal changes. Because of abundance of water high humidity and fog are common and the absence of mountains makes the country vulnerable to storms which sweep across the country.
  3. The summers starting from December till March are warm then the month of October and November are transitional months of spring and are usually damp, cool and windy.
  4. The winters beginning from June till September are chilly and damp whereas the autumn months April and May stay mild. The rainfall is fairly distributed throughout the year.
  5. Average temperature in summer season varies from 22 degree to 26 degree Celsius. The month of January is warmest.
  6. During winters the temperature ranges between 12 degree Celsius and 9 degree Celsius. The coldest month in winters is July.
  7. The average annual rainfall recorded is 1,000 mm. Heavy precipitation occur during autumn, while the other seasons receive almost equal downpours.

Things to carry:

  1. You don’t need to be prepared for harsh weather, thankfully. If you are traveling during December to March (summer), carry your lightweights. The evenings tend to get cool so be adequately warmed! Wear your woollies to your heart’s content in winter.

  1. The country has 2 main airports – Montevideo’s Aeropuerto International Carrasco and Punta del Este’s Aeropuerto El Sauce. There are frequent flights from Buenos Aires (Argentina), Brazil, Asuncion (Paraguay) and Santiago (Chile) to Carrasco.
